OLYMPIA, Wash. – Down ten points
with just two and a half minutes left, the Mountaineer's Tyree
Jones canned a three-pointer with 12 seconds left to tie the game
at 72-72 and eventually send the game to overtime. But that is
somewhere EOU has not enjoyed being in 2003-04.
The offensive barrage at the end of the
game from Jones, Trevor Exline and Bryan Rabas got the
Mountaineers to overtime, but it was a lack of offense that doomed EOU
in the extra period. Evergreen outscored EOU 7-3 in extra five
minutes to secure the win.
The loss was the Mountaineers 4th
overtime loss of the season and it evened EOU overall record on the
season at 8-8 and 4-6 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Exline led all scorers with 27 points,
hitting 10-of-15 from the floor, including 2-of-5 from behind the
three-point arc. Exline also had 13 rebounds for his fourth
double-double of the season.
Tony Luper led all rebounders
with 15 boards, including six offensive.
Rabas was the only other Mountaineer in
double-figures with 15 points, including four treys, before fouling
out. He also just missed his double-double with nine rebounds.
The Mountaineers held a decisive edge
in rebounding, 58-36, but it was free throw shooting that was the
difference in this game. Not only did the lack of free throw
shooting keep Evergreen from sealing the game down the stretch in
regulation. The Geoducks had 36 free throw attempts making just
21, while the Mountaineers shot just 9 charity tosses, making 6.
Eastern Oregon will attempt to rebound
against Concordia on Tuesday in Portland. Start time is set for
7:30 pm and can be heard in the Concordia internet network.
