E-Mail Forwarding

Usage Notes...
-
Forwarding means that all incoming e-mail to you will be sent on
to the address you specify. This is done without any feedback or
notification to the sender. By default, no local copy is retained in your
EOU inbox.
-
You must enter a VALID username and password to change
forwarding settings.
-
Always specify a complete forwarding address, with no embedded spaces,
including "@" and the domain name. To forward to another address at
Eastern, include "@eou.edu". You can forward to more than one
person by separating the addresses with a comma (but no spaces).
-
You cannot forward mail to your own EOU address. This creates a
forwarding loop which will result in incoming mail being bounced
or discarded.
To deliver mail to your EOU address, click "stop forwarding".
-
If you have a valid forwarding address in place, your EOU mailbox
will not be disabled for inactivity even if you fail to read your
inbox for prolonged periods.
-
Forwarding requests are submitted to a batch queue. Usually your
request will be acted on in under a half hour.
-
A special setting (CC:me) allows retention of a copy in your
EOU inbox. Warning: this technique is not recommended, because it
often produces accumulation of mail in unattended inboxes -
this can result in account cancellation and deletion of accumulated
mail. To forward a copy while retaining a copy at EOU, set the
CC:me field to YES.
-
A special setting (Mode:) can be used to change the 'envelope
sender address' on your forwarded mail to REMAILER at eou.edu.
Normally, the original sender address is retained, but this can
trigger some spamblocks which are suspicious of, for example,
a hotmail address originating at eou.edu. Set mode to REMAIL
if your destination ISP is running this type of spamblocker.
Note that in REMAIL mode, mail that fails to reach you will
not bounce to the sender but will instead be discarded at EOU.
The "From:" header displayed by most email clients is not
altered by this option.

All users have the additional option of changing their forwarding in a
terminal session on the server. From off campus, you must
use the EOU dialups to do this. Then use an editor
such as pico or vi to create a file named .forward containing
a single line with your forwarding address. Note that the
file name begins with a period.
Security issues...
Exit your web-browser after using this program or others will be able to
access your mailbox and discover personal info. If you can't exit the
browser, enter a bogus password when you're done and attempt to resubmit
the request - this should clear the cached value; but other users may
still be able to use "forward" and "back" to view whatever you've done.
It's also wise to clear the browser's memory and disk caches (if
possible). Clicking
here will discourage (but not prevent) "backing" into your work with
many browsers.
You should only use this program through http to servers where you would
not hesitate to use telnet or ftp.
