Steps
in Applying for Financial Aid
Complete and mail the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA application is available in the Eastern Financial Aid Office,
your local high school or the Federal Student Aid Information Center.
It is also available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Beware of imitation financial aid sites that charge a fee. Filling out
the FAFSA is completely free.
Apply as soon as possible AFTER January 1,
for the next academic year. Aid is awarded on a first come, first
served basis. The FAFSA asks for specific tax information. If you have
not yet filed your taxes, you can estimate and update the information
when you have filed.
The Eastern Oregon University Title IV Code is 003193.
Your application should be processed in approximately four weeks from
the time that you mail it and approximately two weeks from the time you
submit it online. If you have applied for financial aid during the previous
year, you should receive a PIN number in the mail. Use it to renew your
FAFSA online and sign electronically. For new online applications, make
sure you use a computer with a printer so you can print and sign the signature
page. Without this signature page, your electronic application will not
be processed.
Eastern will receive your Student Aid Report electronically if they are
one of the schools listed on your FAFSA. Your financial aid will be determined
on the basis of that information.

Verification
If you are selected for verification, you must produce your records for
the information on the FAFSA application to prove that the information you
reported is correct. Be sure you keep all documents, and be sure that the
information you report is accurate. Check with the Financial Aid Office
to see what documents you will need to turn in. You can access some
of the required documents from our Forms
Page.
If that information changes after you apply, you must update it so that
it's correct on the date you sign your SAR or certify your application
information. Otherwise, you won't be able to receive federal student aid.
The Statement of Updated Information on the back of Part 1 of your SAR
gives the information that must be updated.

Determining
Eligibilty
Once we have received your information, we use it to determine eligibility
for financial aid. Part of that determination is identifying financial
need. The calculation starts with cost of attendance.

If you use the budget for the 200-043 academic year, we start with
$13101. From this, we will subtract the Expected Family Contribution
(EFC), to determine financial need. We will then attempt to fill
the need with need based funds. The fund types and amounts will
vary based on need, timeliness of application, year in school, and other
factors. While student loans are an increasing part of a student's
financial aid package, Eastern Oregon University attempts to fill need
with other types of aid prior to filling with loans. Most students
will receive some type of loan in their award package, we make every
effort to fund students in grants and work programs when possible.

Timeline
January 1 -- Student and parents apply with the federal application
(FAFSA), or renewal application as soon as possible. Student applies
for scholarships through Eastern and/or outside sources. (Eastern's
deadline is February 15.)
March/April -- Student is notified if recipient of any Eastern
scholarships. If student applies early, and Eastern has all documents
required, student is notified of award package sometime during Spring.
Student accepts/declines aid on Webster.
June/July -- If Federal Stafford loans are part of the financial
aid package, the student will receive the promissory note in the mail.
This must be completed, and returned to the lender or guarantee agency.
Instructions on where to send the promissory note will be sent as well.
First time borrowers must go through an entrance
interview prior to picking up their funds. This is the requirement
for both Federal Stafford Loans and Federal Perkins Loans
September -- The loan funds are sent to Eastern electronically
to be released to the student's account when needed. The student pays
fees during the first 2 weeks of classes. If there are funds in
addition to the cost of attendance, the student can request a refund
from Student Accounts.
