The Assistive Technology Lab is located in Loso Hall in room 236.  There is always a lab assistant on duty. The lab assistants are trained in our computer software programs that assist students with a learning disability. The software that is available is Dragonspeak, Kurzweil 3000,and Plextalk.

Kurzweil 3000 will scan a text book and then read it aloud to the student.  The speed can be adjusted to adapt to each student. With Dragonspeak, you read into the microphone and you are training the program to recognize your voice. From there Dragonspeak will listen to what you have recorded and type a paper in a word document.  The best way to use Plextalk, is to first scan your text  using Kurzweil. While the program is reading the text aloud, Plextalk then records the text onto a CD.

In the ATO Lab,we have three separate rooms that are used for distraction free testing for those students that need extended test time. Each room has a computer for those students who need to take their test on the computers or blackboard. In the main room there are three more computers and a laser printer.

We do recommend that all work is saved onto a disk and not the hard drive. This is to prevent students losing any of their work.
