History:
Eastern Oregon University has
had a Micronesian Program since 1977. This program provides
counseling, academic advising, and other related services
to students from the Republic of Palau, Federated States
of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshalls, and the Commonwealth
of Northern Marianas. Over 300 students have been served
since the program began, with and average of 50 students
attending Eastern each year. The students come from Palau
and the former U.S. Trust Territory Islands of the Marshalls,
Pohnpei, Yap, Kosrae, Chuuk, and the Marianas.
Mission:
Our goal is to assist Micronesian
students in working through the everyday challenges that
face them on campus as well as in the community, and we
are committed to providing the highest level of educational
and personal services necessary for the students to reach
their academic goals. Our Program staff are advisors.
Staff:
Staff is well informed about services
and assistance vital to the student's academic success.
Staff also act as liasion between the students, university,
community, and the major islands in Micronesia. They also
serve as advisor to the Navigator's

Scholarships:
Students are eligible to obtain
scholarships from their respective Island States. The eligibility
for financial aid assistance or island scholarships depends
upon individual circumstances such as the student's current
enrollment, financial needs, and current grade point average.
Academic Involvement:
Micronesian students at Eastern
engage in a variety of major fields of study in four year
degree or transfer programs such as Business, Pre-Med or
Nursing, Biology, Pre-Engineering, General Studies, Art,
Music, Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology. There is
also a two year degree available (Associate of Science)
in Office Administration, bringing the total number of degrees
available to 23.
Campus Involvement:
Students are encouraged to become
involved in a variety of campus activities. Among these
are student clubs, school dances, field trips, intramural
and intercollegiate sports, campus movies and theater performances,
theater production and concerts.
