Compliance

Compliance is a very important part of being a student.  It is the student's responsibility to stay current in all compliance areas.  For the most part, much of these areas only need to be done once.

Bloodborne Pathogen Training
Federal law mandates that all individuals at risk for exposure to bloodbome pathogens receive training annually about how to protect themselves. The School of Nursing has arranged training for students during summer term.

CPR
All students must show evidence of current certification in CPR training for Health Care Providers (includes both child and adult). This regulation is required by all clinical agencies. Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande offeres CPR classes, please contact them at (541) 963-1495 or click here for their current schedule.

Please Note: CPR courses are not offered frequently. We recommend students begin looking for a course now.

Criminal Background Checks
All admitted students must submit their State or County of residence criminal background check (CBC) and fingerprint report (FPR) upon matriculation. Students will be prevented from participation in clinical experience without this documentation.

La Grande area students, please call (541) 963-1017 to make an appointment for fingerprinting at the Sheriff's Office.  They will provide the fingerprint cards. The cost is $5.00/card. Fingerprinting is offered Tuesday's 8-12, Thursday's 1-5 and Friday's 8-5. Stdents will need to bring picture IDs with them.

For Information on requesting your criminal Background check, Click here. We recommend that students do not wait to start this process. It can take up to eight weeks to get the results.

HIPAA
As part of the HIPAA privacy standards, OHSU is required to educate all members of its workforce on how HIPAA will affect their role at OHSU. OHSU's workforce includes all employees, students, faculty, staff, and volunteers.

OHSU has developed a computer based education program called “Privacy and You.” All students are required to complete the tutorial by May 6, 2005. HIPAA Instructions.

Big Brain: OHSU Respect at the University
OHSU strives to maintain excellence in teaching, research and patient care. To carry forth that commitment it is important to continue educating the OHSU population about professional behavior and equal opportunity. To this end, OHSU has developed the training "A Higher Standard: OHSU Respect at the Unversity." Everyone at OHSU, including employees, students, faculty, and volunteers, is required to complete the Respect at the University education. Immunizations
Students enrolled in the OHSU School of Nursing program may be exposed to communicable diseases during clinical rotations resulting in manifestation of the disease and possible spread to patients and other co-workers. In order to protect students, other health care providers and patients, OHSU requires students to provide evidence of adequate immunity to Hepatitis B, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Tetanus Diphtheria, MMR and PPD. Students need to complete the Immunization Form and return it to the nursing department by May 27, 2005.
We recommend that students who do not have Hepatits B, start the sequence immediately.

Please note: failure to provide complete documentation will result in an unexcused absence from the clinical setting. Students will be allowed to participate in clinicals only after the immunization criteria has been met.

Medical Insurance
Health insurance is required of all nursing students. OHSU Student Health will automatically charge you for health insurance UNLESS YOU HAVE RETURNED a Medical Waiver Form proving you have your own policy.

Release of Information

Students need to complete a Release of Information form by May 27, 2005, authorizing the school to release information under certain circumstances.
