Dara Decker, Union County Emergency Services Officer was introduced to committee members.

Outside north entrance to Loso Hall - Water dripping off roof, freezes and causes icy hazard.

Discussed lighting in inside stairwells. Helen indicated that President's Commission on the Status of Women would like to participate in organizing the campus lighting tour this spring.

Dara Decker, Union County Emergency Services Officer, discussed how the Union County Emergency Services Program works. She indicated that in case of emergency or disaster at Eastern, assistance is available in several ways, including identifying various resources and coordinating relief efforts.

Ms. Decker noted that Union County has EOU is listed as a primary evacuee station for the county. She would like to go through the appropriate channels to make this designation officially recognized by Eastern's administration. She also stressed that an evacuee station is a gathering place and not a shelter. The local Red Cross is in charge of designating shelter sites in case of a disaster.

Also discussed were the ramifications of Senate bills 13, 14 & 15, which address earthquake drills, and seismic retrofitting of schools, hospitals and fire stations.

OLD BUSINESS

Draft of weapons policy was distributed. Linda suggested that a requirement for trigger locks on weapons left in vehicles (similar to requirements in current Resident Life policy) be included in the campus weapons policy. Draft will be amended to incorporate suggestions and will be brought back to committee for final approval at the next meeting.

Next meeting is scheduled for February 11, 2002 at 3:00pm.
