NEW BUSINESS

Minutes from December 5, 2000 meeting approved as read.

No new 801s (Workman Comp reports).
The pending 801 was denied by SAIF. There was no proof that problem was work related.

No new Safety Grams received.
Federal government is doing a mandatory survey on accidents in the workplace. This survey parallels OSHA's form 200 that is done every year and posted by February 1.Travis will confirm that these forms are being posted by building managers.

Travis has new videos on several safety related issues available for checkout by departments. The videos include, "Office Ergonomics", "Fire Safety", and "Office Safety". Travis is also available to present trainings on these issues to interested departments. Safety Committee will review these videos at upcoming meetings.

Jeff will present "Academic Aftershocks" to the committee at an upcoming meeting. This is a video that focuses on dealing with and cleaning up after the Northridge, CA earthquake.

Travis mentioned the need for a campus-wide disaster drill to establish meeting places, fire exits, etc. He asked the committee to consider what would be the best way to get this information to all occupants of each building. It was agreed that the building managers should receive training and they could forward the information to occupants of their building. There will be a statewide disaster drill in April. It was agreed that it would be a good idea for Eastern to participate. Travis and Irene will discuss options with Darlene Morgan.

OLD BUSINESS

Disaster Plan
After the work meeting some redundancies were found. Irene will work on distilling the plan into a more brief and readable document.

Loso Shop Tech
1. Proposal is still under consideration.
2. Linda mentioned that McKenzie Theatre has issues such as the fly system, and sound system that needs permanent supervision. It was suggested that these duties could possibly be incorporated into the Shop Tech position, as well.
3. Irene is looking at several different options including the possibility of creating a classified position.

Posting Policy
Travis and Irene spoke with Darlene Morgan regarding the status of the posting policy recommended by this committee. Darlene is currently reviewing recommendation. Travis and Irene will follow-up and keep committee informed.

Risk Management
Brett talked with representative from OUS risk management department. There is no problem transporting or helping an injured person. You should do the best you can according to your ability. Besides being covered by Eastern's liability insurance, Oregon has a Good Samaritan Law that protects individuals from liability when they are assisting an injured person.

Miscellaneous
Irene is in the process of building a budget structure within the Safety Committee budget. She will keep the committee apprised of the progress. Matt Graves is still in process of identifying building managers and finding out what training they have received in that capacity. It was asked whether or not committee members thought building managers should attend Safety Committee meetings and whether or not the Safety Committee should handle the administration of building managers. Travis and Irene will discuss this possible change with Darlene Morgan.

Next Meeting scheduled for February 14, 2001 at 10:00am, location TBA.

Meeting adjourned at 10:55am.

Minutes submitted by Helen Moore.
