NEW BUSINESS

Minutes from January 17, 2000 meeting approved as read.

One new 801 (Workman Comp report)
Shoulder strain by plant employee - not recordable.

One Safety Gram from Linda Overlock. 8th Street hill sidewalk is very dangerous when it is snowy and/or icy. Travis will look into possible solutions. Linda also mentioned that the gravel in the sidewalk on the NW corner of Inlow needs replenished.

Summaries of OSHA's 200 forms have been distributed. Travis will check and confirm that building managers in each building have posted the summaries. Travis is still pursuing the building manager issue with Matt Graves.

Travis brought up the issue of who is responsible for safety trainings at satellite offices. This is a concern for other campuses around the state, as well. One possible solution offered is to divide the state into sections and have whatever campus is geographically closest to satellite office assume responsibility for training at that office. Another suggestion was for Travis (or another safety committee member) to provide on-site training. In order to reduce travel expenses, it might be possible to coordinate travel plans with other members of the campus community who go to these sites throughout the year.

Question was raised regarding personal safety issues such as, what to do if you felt unsafe in the presence of certain individuals. Travis said that anytime any campus member felt unsafe they should immediately call the local law enforcement office at 911. Travis will send a notice to the campus community letting them know that, in an emergency, it is appropriate to call local law enforcement, rather than campus security.

Helen mentioned concern about signage at one-way entrance to the west Badgley parking lot. Travis will forward concern to Facilities and Planning.

Payroll is planning a meeting for student employee supervisors. Travis and Irene will incorporated some student worker Safety Issues into that meeting.

Committee reviewed video on "Fire Safety". Committee will review other videos at future meetings. These videos are available from Travis for checkout by the campus community.
