April 10, 2001

NEW BUSINESS

Minutes from March 14, 2001 meeting approved as read.

New 801s (Workman Comp report). No new 801s filed this month. One of last month's 801s accepted, one denied.

Procedure for reporting accidents/filling out SAIF claims was discussed:
1. Employee injured - does not seek medical attention / Fill out non-801 form
2. Employee injured - does see medical attention / Supervisor brings completed 801 form to Irene.
3. Supervisor and/or Travis and/or Irene complete accident investigation before submitting claim to SAIF

No new Safety Grams. Travis is still looking into the possibility of installing handrails along the 8th Street hill sidewalk.

The State Disaster Drill planned for April 11th was discussed. Safety Committee members and Building Managers are encouraged to attend. Video on earthquake preparedness will be presented.

Helen shared information gathered from Grande Ronde Hospital's Debbie Akers regarding Disaster Drills and preparedness. Use of paper drills was recommended. According to Ms. Akers, the most likely disasters to occur on Eastern's campus included a sniper attack, and a bomb threat. The committee also discussed the possibility of a chemical spill and an earthquake.

Notification procedure in case of a disaster is a major concern on Eastern's campus. Travis will explore different options of notifying building managers, including using a phone tree. Another concern is identifying the person who has authority to declare disaster "all clear". These concerns will be considered as the disaster plan is fine tuned and future disaster drills are organized.
