May 15, 2001

NEW BUSINESS

Minutes from April 10, 2001 meeting approved as submitted.

Student member, Kerri Wood, was introduced.

New 801s (Workman Comp report). One lower back injury - lost time. Human Resources Office investigated a workman's comp claim that was filed earlier in the year.

No new Safety Grams. Travis is still looking into the possibility of installing handrails along the 8th Street hill sidewalk. Issue should be resolved this summer.

The earthquake preparedness video, shown on April 11 was discussed. It will be shown again in the near future for those who were unable to attend the first showing.

Travis shared some of the issues discussed at the OUS Safety Officers Meeting. Included was the fact that only OIT (as the result of a bomb scare) has had a full-scale evacuation and that it was not a success. Many campuses do fire drills but, as with Eastern, communication seems to be major stumbling block. Brett suggested that the committee should investigate feasibility of using Plant Services personnel and hand held radios to help deal with the communication issue in case of a disaster.

Travis informed committee that the flip chart dealing with what to do in case of a disaster is in process. He distributed draft copies of a campus evacuation map. Committee had several suggestions regarding the map, which Travis will incorporate into a final version.

Travis has been unable obtain more information regarding how other campus deal with safety issues and training at their satellite sites, but he will continue to pursue the issue

Loso Hall Shop Tech position is still in the works..
