-OSHA 200 (accident posting forms) have been revised and replaced with a
new form #300. Travis and Irene will follow-up and report back with details
of changes.
-Copies of the new SAIF forms were distributed to committee members. Irene
also reported that all employees who are off work for more than a week with
a Worker's Comp Claim are now required to contact the Human Resources Department
at least once a week with an update on the status of their injury.
New Safety Grams
-A live .22 caliber shell was found in a Loso Hall hallway. Security was
notified. The Safety Gram was informational only.
SAIF personnel will be visiting La Grande on July 30th for a get acquainted meeting. Travis will participate in the meeting.
The Let There Be Light tour is rescheduled for Tuesday October 29th at 6:00PM. Special attention will be paid to lighting concerns on the 8th Street hill. The President's Commission on the Status of Women has expressed interest in participating in the tour. Helen will let them know the date and time.
Sue Cain will be the new Risk Management Coordinator so she will be invited to join the Safety Committee after Brett Timm's departure from campus on June 30, 2002.
A paper drill will be planned for sometime this summer. Travis and Irene will develop a scenario for the drill. The first paper drill will involve building managers who are also Safety Committee members.
OLD BUSINESS
Old Safety Grams
-Ackerman stairway lighting--Service Request has been issued to add a light
switch to the first floor landing.
-Kiln burnout issue--It is not possible to re-vent the kiln because of the
locations of air intake ducts. Vickie will coordinate with Facilities and
Planning personnel to have the air intake shut down during kiln burnouts.
-Room occupancy limits--Rooms without fixed seating and one exit have a
maximum capacity of 49. Rooms without fixed seating and two exits have a
maximum capacity of 99. Rooms with fixed seating have guidelines commensurate
with the available seating. The guidelines are from the 1997 Uniform Building
Codes. Travis will investigate for further specifics.
-West end of Inlow Basement clutter problem--Area was cleaned. Helen will
confirm that it is now clear.
-8th Street Hill--The heated sidewalk is on the list of sidewalk construction
projects for this summer, but it is not sure where the projects stands on
the priority list. The committee decided to send a recommendation to Dean
Morgan emphasizing the need for the heated sidewalk. The recommendation
will include a recommendation that the grand staircase be barricaded and
warning signs placed. The signs may not prevent people from using the stairs,
but it may reduce the use and should help limit the University's liability
in case of an accident.
-Posting on glass entrance doors--After discussion with Dean Morgan, it
was decided that policy would be left up to building managers. The exception
is that, per Student Activities' policy, nothing approved by Student Activities
Office can be posted on a glass entry door.
-Women's Locker Room--Still in progress. Irene will contact Rob Cashell
as soon as possible.
Campus disaster plan will be forwarded to Dean Morgan for administrative approval. Until the plan is approved, draft copies will be distributed to all building managers. Various department disaster plans are still in process.
Next meeting is scheduled for July 16, 2002 at 2:00pm.
