NEW BUSINESS

Minutes from May 15, 2001 meeting approved as submitted.

New 801s (Workman Comp report). 1. Pulled tendon in elbow - lost time.
2. Blood clot resulting from a bump on the leg.

No new Safety Grams. Suggested that we look at ways to make campus aware of Safety Grams. We will make sure that all building managers have blanks and know when and how to complete them.

Irene informed the committee that Worker's Compensation used to be "No Fault" for the employee. However, after a recent lawsuit, the worker now has to prove that their injury is directly work related. Department of Administrative Services has recommended that we look at our accident investigation form and make some revisions to reflect this new information. Committee will review and make suggestions at the next meeting.

Kerri Wood graduated this term and has recommended John Barresse as the student representative on the Safety Committee. Irene will contact him.

Discussed some ideas for the Safety Committee web page that Helen will be working on over the summer. After the web page is constructed, it will be brought back to the committee for more ideas and suggestions.

Irene informed the committee of a recent study done on the safety (or lack thereof) of 15 passenger vans. Study showed that chance of rollover increases as the number of passengers increase. The danger increased even more when passengers were not wearing seatbelts. It was suggested that this committee develop a warning placard that could be placed in the vehicle advising the driver of the possible hazard.

OLD BUSINESS

Job description of the Loso Hall Shop Tech position has been completed and sent to School of Arts and Sciences for final review.

Travis made contact with Union County regarding a countywide disaster plan. He discovered that there is no countywide disaster committee or plan; however, the county offices and Grande Ronde Hospital do disaster drills every couple of years. Travis will work with interim director, Dennis Spray, to coordinate Eastern's participation in the current drills and to establish more comprehensive drills.

Campus disaster plan is still in progress. Irene will bring a copy of what is done for the committee to review at the next meeting.

Next Meeting scheduled for July 17, 2001 at 10:00am, in Inlow Hall 203.

Meeting adjourned at 10:45am

Minutes submitted by Helen Moore.
