MINUTES
NEW BUSINESS
Minutes from last meeting approved as submitted.
No New 801s (Workman Comp report)
Non-801s
-Spring loaded door on a cold room in new Science Building opened suddenly
and threw an ODFW employee against a wall. Warning is being installed regarding
safe use of the door.
-A student was injured while working in the field on an internship with
ODFW. The student filed a report with the EOU, but it was determined that
the student is actually working for ODFW and probably should be covered
under their Workman's Comp policy. Irene will pursue.
New Safety Grams
-Noisy Sprinkler. Determined that it was more of an annoyance than a hazard.
The safety gram was withdrawn.
Helen checked with Gary Moses regarding a follow-up form for Safety Gram submitters. Gary suggested that, considering the small number of Safety Grams submitted each month, we continue with the paper printouts. Helen will ask Gary to set up an automatic reply for each Safety Gram. The reply will include a Thank You and will have a link to the Safety Committee minutes on the web. The submitter will be instructed to check the minutes for information on resolution of the safety hazard.
Committee was reminded of the need to inspect each building on campus for safety violations. Each building is supposed to be inspected once per quarter and it was decided to have a committee member join the building manager for each inspection. Helen will inspect Ackerman, Steve and Bill will inspect the Plant areas, Vickie and Bob will inspect Loso, Sue Rayburn will inspect the new Science Building, (it was suggested that she wait till the construction workers are finished before doing the inspection), Sue Cain will inspect Inlow Hall, Ryan will inspect Quinn, Linda will inspect Hoke, Jeff will inspect the Library and Steve and Irene will inspect Student Health and Hunt. Helen and Sue Cain recently inspected Inlow, so it is okay for the rest of this quarter.
Irene asked our OSHA representative for help with education and training for Safety Committee members. The representative will be here in August. Irene will keep the committee informed of additional details as they become available.
OLD BUSINESS
OLD SAFETY GRAMS
-Nothing new on the women's locker room issue. Ryan will continue to pursue.
-Irene talked with Robin Weinman, Interim Student Activities Director, and
she will take steps to insure that safety guidelines are followed when showing
movies outdoors.
-Sue Cain and Irene had to postpone the follow-up on the Volleyball Court
issue. It has been recommended that more research be done into how the sand
courts are constructed elsewhere.
-Irene will pursue the ramp issue in the basement of Inlow Hall with Darlene
Morgan.
-The golf cart belongs to Chartwells and will go with them when they leave
campus in mid-August, thus removing the issue of where to park it
Question was raised regarding how to get replacements for missing or defective fire extinguishers. Steve said that he has replacements available and asked for an email telling him where the replacement is needed.
Next meeting is scheduled for August 12, 2003 at 2:00pm.
