NEW BUSINESS

Minutes from last meeting approved with correction noting Bob Gilmore's absence.

New 801s (Workman Comp report)
-Headstart teacher bitten by student. Went to doctor, but there was no time loss. -Employee dehydrated during a cross country trip. Went to the emergency room. -Employee hurt knee during rodeo. No time loss.
-Student worker fell off step at Quinn and broke her elbow. Saw doctor, no time loss.

New Safety Grams
-Tripping hazard in asphalt about 10 yards from Badgley Hall's east entrance. A rut several inches deep was caused by loaded contractor's truck sinking in asphalt during an extremely hot day. Facilities and Planning personnel have been notified.
-Ashes being dumped in drain by southwest entrance of Loso Hall. Irene will investigate to determine if there is actually a hazard.

Sue advised of a sodium hydroxide spill in Badgley Hall. Gary Keller was called to bring a spill kit and the material was successfully contained. Sue had a small spill kit on hand, but will put together a larger one in case of future accidents.

Irene distributed a flyer entitled "You've got eyestrain!" which outlined some ideas for reducing eyestrain while looking at a computer monitor for extended periods of time. There was some discussion among committee members regarding benefits of using an LCD flat panel monitor.

OLD BUSINESS

Irene read a memo to the committee that is to be sent to Vice President Morgan. The memo outlined the committee's recommendations regarding upgrading the 8th Street hill sidewalk and closing the grand staircase. Committee recommended that a note be added suggesting the lighting on the 8th Street hill be upgraded as well. Irene will add the note and deliver the memo to Vice President Morgan, along with the recommendation from the committee to adopt the campus weapons policy and disaster plan on a temporary basis, pending administrative approval on the final documents.

A possible earthquake paper drill was discussed. It was decided that, without a P.A. system in each building, more information is needed regarding what to do in case of an earthquake before a drill is held. A couple of basic paper drills have been scheduled for the summer by Irene and Travis but, since the idea of a paper drill is to determine the level of preparedness, details of the drills are being withheld until after they happen.

Question was brought forward regarding the status of building inspections. Building inspections used to be handled by the Safety Committee, but are now handled by Facilities and Planning personnel. Irene will check on the inspections and report back to the committee.

Next meeting is scheduled for August 20, 2002 at 2:00pm.
September meeting is scheduled for September 17, 2002 at 2:00pm.
