NEW BUSINESS
Minutes from June 20, 2001 meeting approved as submitted with one spelling correction.
No New 801s (Workman Comp report).
One new Safety Gram. Roof tiles falling off NW corner of Inlow Hall and dead trees on NE lawn of Inlow Hall. Travis said that there were Service requests already in place to deal with both issues.
More discussion of ideas for the Safety Committee web page that Helen will be working on over the summer. After the web page is constructed, it will be brought back to the committee for more ideas and suggestions.
Travis mentioned that the 15 passenger van safety issues that were discussed at the last meeting were also discussed at the state Safety Officer meeting. Recommendation that no more than 10 passengers be allowed in Eastern's 15 passenger vans was forwarded to Darlene Morgan's office for action. It was also recommended that no 15-passenger vans be purchased in the future. Irene will do a safety gram to document our recommendations.
Emergency Services Flip Chart has been completed and distributed to the campus community. 500 copies were printed and 400 were distributed. Travis will add a section on marshalling areas to the information on the evacuation maps in each building.
A training session for all building managers is scheduled for 10:00am on Tuesday, August 14. After the training we will begin scheduling regular disaster drills, which will coordinate with the local fire department and local law enforcement agencies. Grande Ronde Hospital will be involved as well. Travis and Irene will confirm list of building managers before the training date.
OLD BUSINESS
Job description of the Loso Hall Shop Tech position has been completed and sent to School of Arts and Sciences for final review. Still waiting on final details.
Travis gave an update to the committee on communication issues in the case of a disaster on campus. The physical plant individual radios do not go through a repeater so they would be available in case of a power outage. However, the base station (housed in the physical plant) does go through a repeater. In case of a power outage that affected the repeater, we could still communicate via the radios, but (since the base station would be inoperable) our range of service would be limited. Also, Eastern's intra-campus phones are independent of off-campus service. So, as long as there is power to Eastern's phone switch room in the library we have on-campus phone service available, even if off-campus phone service is interrupted. Several buildings on campus, including the phone switch room, have emergency generators in place. Matt Graves is pursuing the possibility of adding additional generators across campus.
Next meeting scheduled for August 14, 2001 following the building managers training session which begins at 10:00am. Safety committee members are asked to attend the building manager training session
Meeting adjourned at 11:15am
