NEW BUSINESS
Minutes from July 17, 2001 meeting approved as submitted.
New 801s (Workman Comp report).
1. Temporary employee fell and sprained wrist – 1 week time
loss.
2. Minor injury to student engaging in horseplay in the swimming pool –
minor first aid administered at scene, no other medical attention needed.
No new Safety Grams.
The trees at NE corner of Inlow Hall lawn (addressed on last month’s Safety
Gram) have been removed.
Repair of the Inlow Hall roof tiles (also on last month’s Safety Gram) is
in progress. Sledding on 8th street presents numerous hazards. It was suggested
that cautionary signs should be installed.
OLD BUSINESS
First draft of the Safety Committee Web Page was presented
to the committee for comments and suggestions. Irene will prepare a “small
blurb” on the function of the committee to place on the Committee’s main
page. Irene will also prepare new instructions for filling out a SAIF claim
and What do to in Case of an Accident. Some changes will be made to the
form to comply with suggestions from DAS due to the ruling that workers
who have been denied SAIF claims can file a lawsuit against the employer.
It was suggested that all references to validity or possible prevention
of the injury be omitted. It was agreed that the Safety Grams be set up
so that they can be completed on line, but the Accident forms will be PDF
files that can be printed out and turned in to the Human Resources Office.
The membership page and building managers page will be updated as new members and building managers are assigned.
Irene and Travis will check with Rob Cashell regarding a committee replacement for Ken Kladnik, who is no longer at Eastern. They will also talk with April Farlow to determine whether or not she is going to be able to become an active member of the committee.
Travis reported that he will be making a presentation on safety to Head Start personnel during their orientation in late August. He is hoping to able to make a similar presentation to the Distance Education personnel the next time they gather on campus. This would reduce the need for him to travel to outlying areas to make the presentations.
Travis reported that Building Marshalling Area maps are being placed in the campus buildings this week. The idea is to post them below the Building Evacuation maps on each floor of each building.
The Building Manager training that was scheduled for today has been postponed until September 11th at 10:00am. Irene and Travis will coordinate with the building managers to insure as high a level of participation as possible. Next meeting is scheduled for September 11, 2001, immediately following the Building Mangers training session. Safety Committee members are asked to attend the training, if possible. Location TBA.
Meeting Adjourned at 10:50am
