Section 5. Student Affairs Committee

  1. Organization --- The Student Affairs Committee shall consist of fourteen (14) members, including two (2) teaching faculty with representation from each School, one (1) administrative-support faculty, six (6) students appointed by the recognized student government, and two (2) classified staff. The Dean of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Activities, and the Director of Residence Life shall serve ex officio without vote.
  2. Duties and Responsibilities
    1. To develop and recommend policy covering student activities, including scheduling and programming of extracurricular activities (with the exception of intercollegiate and intramural athletic programs) which are initiated by student organizations or by the University.
    2. dTo develop and recommend policy covering residence life, student housing, food service, and food vending.
    3. To develop, recommend, and implement student behavior policies and to provide for the enforcement of procedures and regulations maintaining appropriate standards of behavior within the student community.
    4. To serve as the Student Conduct Committee or to provide for the appointment of an ad hoc committee to serve for individual hearings dealing with student behavior and academic dishonesty.
    5. To grant recognition to student organizations and approve the constitutions and bylaws of such organizations. The Committee shall also review and approve subsequent amendments or revisions to such constitutions and bylaws.
    6. To establish sub-committees and ad hoc committees when necessary.
    7. To advise the Dean of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Affairs, and the Director of Residence Life in matters relating to the students of the University and support services for the students.
    8. To delegate to appropriate University offices and student organizations those tasks deemed by the Committee to be necessary or prudent in order to carry out effectively its mission as directed by the Assembly.
