Geography professor asks, "What good is the Emergency Alert System?" at next colloquium
Dr. Marian Mustoe, assistant professor of geography
at EOU, will present
his research on "Henny Penny, Prairie Dogs and the Emergency
Alert
System: What good is the EAS?" for the next colloquium Thursday,
Oct.
27, in Ackerman Hall, Room 210.
The colloquium is hosted by the University
and is free and open to the
public. Refreshments will be served at 3:30 p.m. The presentation
begins
at 4 p.m.
For more than six years, Mustoe has studied
the effectiveness of the
Emergency Alert System. He uses train derailments that have occurred
across the country as models for his research. In April 2005,
Mustoe
presented his findings to the American Association of Geographers
in
Denver, Colo. For the colloquium, he has included data from the
derailment that occurred on Oct. 15 in Texarkana, Ark.
Mustoe's work will be of particular interest
to those involved in
hazards management, emergency management and local alert systems.
Mustoe
holds a Ph.D from Texas A&M University.
Colloquiums are held twice per month at EOU
and cover a broad range of
topics. Anyone interested in participating is welcome. For more
